Michael J. Murray is dedicated to helping clients achieve their long-term goals by offering comprehensive advice across their total wealth landscape. Collaborating closely with clients’ broader teams of professional advisers, Mike creates customized investment strategies focused on maximizing wealth preservation while also identifying and capitalizing on wealth creation opportunities.

With more than 25 years of experience, Mike excels at guiding clients through complex financial situations, especially during transitional life events such as business sales, trust distributions, retirement, and divorce. His creative approach and problem-solving skills ensure clients make informed, confident decisions during pivotal moments in their financial journeys.

While Mike works with a wide range of clients, his personal experience as a business owner and firm leader provides him with a unique understanding of the needs and challenges faced by entrepreneurs and C-suite executives. Before becoming a founding partner of Altair Advisers in 2002, Mike served as a senior consultant in the Private Client Services practice at Arthur Andersen’s Chicago office. During his tenure, he was selected to help launch the firm’s investment consulting practice in London.

Recognized for his business acumen and analytical expertise, Mike is an integral member of Altair’s Board of Managers and also has served on the firm’s Investment Committee.

Mike holds a BBA in Accounting and Finance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has earned several professional designations. He is a CFA charterholder, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certificant, and also holds the CAIA (Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst) designation.

Mike and his wife, Amy, along with their two daughters, reside in Chicago’s West Town neighborhood.
